British Standard 13A Double Switched Socket with USB-C — Built for Middle East & GCC Markets
The British Standard 13A DN71492C is a double switched socket developed specifically for markets where the UK standard is the national standard – Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the GCC region and Malaysia. This double wall socket will feature two UK 3-pin outlets with each being operated by a separate rocker switch with a neon indicator and will also contain a built-in Type-C USB charging port. In terms of the colour and finish of the panel, the socket is 88×146mm in dimension and is available in three different premium finishes – i.e. PC for large volume orders, tempered glass which has a high-shine scratch and smudge-resistant surface, and brushed aluminium which has an industrial metallic appearance. The DN71492C’s socket outlet can be specified with either SP single pole or DP double pole switched operation, the DP option providing complete isolation of both live and neutral for increased safety. Rated at 13A/250V, red copper and Φ3.0×25mm silver alloy contact materials – IEC certified and 12-year warranty.
We are a factory-direct manufacturer offering competitive wholesale pricing, OEM branding on any panel material, and a 12‑year warranty across the DN71 series range.

Designed for GCC, Kuwait, Saudi & Malaysia — Where British Standard Is the National Standard
Kuwait and GCC sockets conform to the British BS 1363 socket standard present in many East-West Asian and Middle-Eastern countries. This Egypt and GCC sockets include all three rectangular pins (with built-in safety shutters); the ability to take 13A fused plugs; and the usual rocker switch operation, widely used by consumers from throughout the market. Therefore, whether supplying electrical wholesalers in Saudi Arabia, bidding for hotel projects in Malaysia, or stocking retail shelves within the GCC region, the Kuwait and GCC socket will meet local regulatory compliance without the need for adapters or interchangeable parts. (Soket dimensions = 88 mm x 146 mm; designed for standard British back boxes used in these markets).
SP or DP Switch — Choose Your Safety Level
| Switch Type | Isolation | Application |
|---|---|---|
| SP (Single Pole) | Switches live only | Standard for most residential rooms — bedrooms, living areas. |
| DP (Double Pole) | Switches both live & neutral | Enhanced safety for kitchens, bathrooms, and commercial spaces. |
Each of the two socket outlets on this double switched socket has its own independent rocker switch with a neon power indicator. The neon glows when the socket is live, giving a clear visual confirmation — a feature valued in hotel and commercial installations across the Gulf and Southeast Asian markets.
Type-C USB Charging + Three Premium Panel Finishes
In addition to the 2 power outlets, our UK switched socket has a built-in type C USB charging port that allows you to charge modern mobile phones, tablets and accessories without the need for an adaptor whilst making both 13A power sockets available to power appliances. The panel is 88mm wide by 146mm high, and it is available in three materials: PC for budget-conscious high-volume projects, tempered glass for a glossy finish that is resistant to fingerprints and suitable for hotel and luxury residential projects, and brushed aluminium for a metallic Industrial finish that is suitable for Commercial & Contemporary Interior designs. All panels contain the same internal mechanism comprised of a red copper and silver alloy, as well as the same middle plate that is made from either Steel or Plastic-encased Steel & provides structural rigidity. The product has been certified by IEC and has a warranty for 12 years.

Why British Standard Sockets Are Used Across the Middle East & Malaysia
A practical guide covering country compatibility, switch type selection, and panel material choices for GCC and Southeast Asian markets.
British Standard Countries — Kuwait, Saudi, GCC & Malaysia
Many countries in the Middle East and some in Southeast Asia use the UK BS1363 three rectangular pin (13 amp fused) electrical sockets with internal safety shutters as the official national wiring standard. Countries like Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain, Oman, and Malaysia specify British‑pattern sockets as part of their national electrical codes. This socket conforms exactly to the British standard for a British‑specification UK BS1363 socket and complies directly without the need for any type of adapter or modified pin configuration.
SP vs DP Switch — Choosing the Right Safety Level
SP: The standard UK (United Kingdom) socket configuration where the switch separates the live leg of the circuit only. This configuration is found in most residential rooms and general-purpose outlets. DP: The switch breaks both the live and the neutral wire at the same time. The use of double pole switches is either required or strongly recommended when installing switches in kitchens, bathrooms or in circuits supplying fixed appliances where total isolation is required for safety during maintenance. The DN71492C provides both options.
Panel Material Selection
Price-Cost Efficient, Hard Wearing for Large Scale Residential/Commercial Projects
Tempered Glass, High End, Gloss Finish, Finger Print Resistant (Luxury Hotel’s or High End Residential Properties) – All Over Gulf Area
Brushed Aluminum – Provides Industrial Metallic Look Suitable for Modern Commercial Interior & Contemporary Residential Designer in Malaysia & GCC.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which countries use British standard 13A sockets?
The British standard (BS 1363) is the internationally recognised electrical socket standard used in many Commonwealth countries including the UK, Ireland, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, Bahrain, Oman, Malaysia and Singapore, with additional countries using this standard. The DN71492C double switched socket has been developed specifically to meet the needs of these markets; it does not act as a general purpose universal adapter, but rather is uniquely designed as a native British Standard 1363 socket providing power directly to compatible 3 pin fused plugs without requiring an additional adapter.
What is the difference between SP and DP on this switched socket?
The live conductor is broken by a single-pole switch (SP), which turns on and off. A double-pole switch (DP) breaks both the live and neutral conductors; therefore, it provides complete isolation and, thus, improves safety. Double-pole switches are usually called for in kitchens, bathrooms, or any other electrical circuit where complete disconnection is required. The DN71492C is available in both the single-pole and double-pole configurations, allowing you to use them according to your project’s requirements in the GCC and Malaysia markets.
Does the USB-C port work while the switch is off?
Correct. A Type C USB charging port has no connection with the switch of the 13 Amp socket. As long as power is supplied to this circuit and is at the distribution board, and regardless of whether the switch or switches for the 13A sockets are on or off, you can charge devices through the Type C USB port. The neon indicators on the front of the plate are used to indicate the operation of the socket outlets only (14/12).
Is this double socket compatible with standard UK back boxes?
The 88×146mm panel is designed to be used with standard double back boxes found in the UK and GCC / Malaysia’s markets. The panel has a slim profile so that it can fit flush against your wall(s). The connections will use traditional UK wiring practice, with the terminals clearly marked as live, neutral, and earth.
