Key Features & Typical Use
Sockets Rarely Sit Alone in a Guest Room
Bedside positions consist of two sockets, desk locations have two, and the television position may have more. In the case of several sockets, it will be understood as a cluster but not as only one unit and the spacing between them will determine whether the setup was intended or not. The big plate allows for wider margins without any additional cost to the socket.
Space Around the Plug
In the case of sockets with plates, the importance of the size of the plate becomes evident once something has been plugged into it. A socket whose plate offers more space around the socket is meant to allow for the connector portion of the plug and any cord coming out of the device to fit without being cramped against some other device. It is more a matter of dealing with a daily inconvenience than of improvement.
The Right Outlet for Class II Loads
Ungrounded outlets are used for equipment that does not require grounding. For example: lamps, battery chargers and appliances with double insulation. If an appliance is powered by a metal case, it requires a grounded outlet. The SD3B range includes the Schuko and French types of outlets dependent on the user’s choice available on the same faceplate.
One Panel through the Room and the Building
The layout of the socket panel is likewise that of the switches, dimmers, and data modules in the SD3B series, which means that it does not matter if used in design used for a commercial or residential application as only one size of the plate will be required in all cases. One can say that the bedside area, workstations, passageway, and toilet lobby must be of the same installation sub-set.

SD3B-015 – Where the Socket Layout Is Designed, Not Fitted
In domestic installations, the position of outlets is determined according to practical requirements. In hotels and serviced apartments outlets are positioned according to the designer’s intention: two at each side of the bed, two at the table and a line of outlets above the media wall. Therefore, apart from defining the idea of the layout, the size of the plate and the spaces around the outlets are considered as stylistic elements rather than a mere coincidence.
This is applicable to a wider panel with this project. The more panel allows for each outlet to have its own plate space, more plug and cable space in a paired arrangement, and a face that maintains its proportions when faced with multiple outlets. The product range includes both earthing and type of charging variants so that you can make your power outlet system with one product family.

Buying Guide
- Take the socket positions from the furniture or interior layout rather than from the electrical drawing alone.
- Identify which positions serve double insulated equipment and which need an earthed outlet.
- Check the paired and grouped positions against the 86 x 76mm panel so the plate margins read evenly.
- Confirm the plate colour and finish across the whole device schedule.
- Approve a sample plate in place and confirm quantities with our team.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is an ungrounded socket intended for?
The device accepts the two-pin European plug and is rated for Class II (double insulated) devices, such as lamps, chargers, and electronic devices that do not require a protective earth connection as they have no unshielded metal parts.
Why specify a wider panel for sockets?
In home and commercial environments, sockets are typically grouped in pairs and rows so that the gaps are visible between socket plates. A wider plate means more space is available around each socket and more space for plugs and cables in a crowded layout.
Is the rating the same as the earthed versions?
This is true. SD3B-015 has a current rating of 16A 250V and has copper contacts in its design similar to the Schuko and French plugs in the family where it belongs. The only major difference among them is the way the earth pin is set up.
When should an earthed socket be specified instead?
The SD3B series covers Schuko and French versions of the outlet for the said locations, if the device is fitted with a metal case or needs a ground connection.
Can it be fitted in a multi gang frame?
Yes, the socket can be supplied as a module for SD3B frames, so multiple sockets, or a socket next to a switch or Data Module, can be incorporated into one single plate as dictated by the layout.
Can it be ordered with the rest of a hotel schedule?
Certainly. The SD3B products use a common format for the panel, which means that all products needed for a site can be found in one order, thus providing consistent plate size and surface finish for all rooms. Minimum Quantity Order is stated per item in the quotation.
