Key Features & Typical Use
Which Appliances Belong on It
The ungrounded outlet is the format consisting of two round pins for Class II devices, which are devices that have double insulation and where no metal parts are in contact with the earth. Examples of Class II devices are most lamps, phone chargers, small power supplies, and other consumer electronics. A device with a metal casing usually has a single insulation and should be plugged into a grounded socket. This is why both socket types are from the same series.
Smaller Plug, Practical in Corners
Due to its smaller size than a Schuko plug or French plug, the two-pin plug is advantageous as it is possible to install a plug in a space with a tight fit because of the two-pin plug taking up less space. This advantage might be the reason why ungrounded outlets are still popular in residential areas, although their electrical rating might be low.
Same 16A Rating
Rated at 16A 250V, the module is in line with the standard rating of the socket family. The contacts used in this module are phosphor copper contacts which ensure reliable contact pressure until the end of the life of the installation. However, the difference between the module at hand and Schuko/French types is in the earth design rather than the current rating.
Mix and Match in One Frame
Since the socket is a module of size 80 x 80 millimeters, it may share a plate with grounded sockets, switches or data modules. A common set-up would pair a Schuko socket with a socket without earth connections, so that both means of connection are offered in the same place. This is particularly useful in hotel rooms catering for international visitors.

E10-015 – When an Ungrounded Socket Is the Right Specification
While specification sheets may sometimes classify the ungrounded outlet as a low-cost device, the choice is actually a matter of the appliance itself. Double insulated appliances do not use a protective earth connection at all and are instead built with two insulating layers, making the earthed outlet pointless in terms of safety. The purpose of the two prong configurations is to match the outlet with the appliance which helps keep the plug smaller in restricted spaces.
In implementation most European installations use a mixture of electrical devices. Earthed sockets are usually situated where devices with metallic elements will be plugged in such as cooking devices and laundry devices, while ungrounded devices are put where light-bulbs, chargers, and consumer electronics are being employed. Because both types of electrical devices are 80mm in diameter and are of the same family, this allowable mixture can be imprinted onto a single panel.

Buying Guide
- List what will be plugged in at each position and note whether the equipment is Class II (double insulated) or requires an earth.
- Specify ungrounded outlets where lamps, chargers and consumer electronics are used; earthed sockets where appliances with metal parts are connected.
- Confirm the socket format used in the country of sale — ungrounded, Schuko or French.
- Plan the plates so mixed positions can share one frame rather than needing separate boxes.
- Choose the supply format: finished plates, or modules plus frames for local assembly.
- Approve a sample module and confirm the configuration with our team.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is an ungrounded socket?
It is a socket possessing two live pins and lacking a protective earth, making it suitable for use with the two-pole round pin European plug. It is designed to provide powering capabilities to Class II appliances (double insulated) which do not possess any external metal components, which would make it mandatory to attach a protective earth conductor.
Can I plug any appliance into an ungrounded socket?
The role of the plug is vital for the working of the appliance but doesn’t mean a plug cannot fit in the socket even if it is not the right one for that appliance. Items belonging to Class II category like lamps and chargers and electrical equipment fall into this category. Metal encased appliances that have single layer insulation should only be connected to equipment having the grounding and therefore the E10 series also comes in French and Schuko varieties too.
What is the difference between an ungrounded socket and a Schuko socket?
Both of them accept round pin plugs, and in this case, they operate at 16A 250V. The Schuko type has earthing pins on both sides while the ungrounded version does not have earthing facilities. The Schuko type is suitable for devices with an earth connection while the ungrounded type is perfect for devices with double insulation.
Is the current rating lower on an ungrounded socket?
This module is rated at 16A 250V, which is the same as the earthed types in the E10 series. The formats differ in the earthing method only and both use phosphor copper contacts.
Can it be fitted next to an earthed socket in the same plate?
Certainly. Both modules measure 80 x 80mm, therefore an ungrounded outlet and a Schuko or French one can fit into the same two gang frame at the same time. This is often used in hotels where clients would come with different plugs.
Can we order it with our own branding and packaging?
Sure. It is possible to get your logo printed on the plate along with your custom carton and instruction sheet, as well as ordering the color of the plate according to your preferences. Minimum order quantity will be determined individually for each item during the quotation process.
