Key Features & Typical Use
Keeping the Market’s Own Format
New appliances in a French standard marketplace require continued operation with French state plug because of differences in earth point positioning from a German system. Although replacement of Type E sockets with Schuko points may enhance the usage scheme, it may generate complications in the future.
Compact Panel for Finished Walls
In the French standard method of living, the sockets are usually installed at definite locations, implying that the locations have not changed for several years now. Nevertheless, this still provides a range of options for electrical contractors regarding replacing the sockets as everything is still done at 73mm of the panel’s height.
Earth Pin in the Socket
The type E design incorporates the earth through a pin that exists within the socket body, which connects on to one part of the plug, and the whole design is made according to the specifications in a manner that permits the establishment of earth path along the plug’s insertion.
A Full Range behind One Plate Format
The version called EF provides the French socket version, which is quite simple and contains USB charging with a lid. Through refurbishment, it will also be possible to use equipped areas with comforts and to modernize desktops.

EF-017 – Like-for-Like Replacement in French Standard Housing
Normally, the objective of a renovation outlet has remained unchanged. In environments where the French model is implemented, this means sticking to the Model E framework according to which the pin is earthed. What makes it difficult in all circumstances is that the building has been created around an unmovable box meaning that the new plate is to be set in this space.
When it comes to selecting the compact panel from the EF series, the primary factor is where it is to be used. Although some technical aspects of electricity do not vary much from other variants of EF sockets in this series, the compact panel is made using the 16A 250V standard with phosphor copper connectors, does so flush-mounted and uses the same frame as other types in this series, thus allowing for the replacement of the compact panel with any other square EF socket.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a French socket?
Type E is the designation for the socket type in the French region and regions operating on the French standard, featuring a dual round electrical socket for the current pins and a protruding socket earth pin in the body of the socket which makes contact with the corresponding hole in the plug. The voltage and current parameters for this type of socket are 16A and 250V respectively, similar to the Schuko family of sockets in this classification.
Why specify a compact panel for French standard housing?
In the case of older French standard residence, it is often the case that the sockets are positioned in the tiling, mouldings, and plaster that has already been put in place. When using a 73mm panel height, there is a more leniency concerning where the new panel will sit in the existing box.
Can a Schuko socket be used as a replacement instead?
While the two formats are almost the same in their day-to-day application, the arrangement of the earth connection is different in both cases. The use of the original market’s format is consistent with the installation of the earth connection of the equipment and that is the reason why EF series provides both options.
Is a USB version available in French format?
Certainly, EF-020 and EF-021 incorporate USB-A as well as Type-C charging into the French socket at 5 volts 2.1 amperes as well as 20 watts, respectively, with both within one suitable panel, meaning the additional charging points can be placed without a separate plate during renovations.
Does it fit older wall boxes?
The socket is flush mounted and uses a standard wall box, but existing boxes come in different shapes and sizes. You will need to measure the opening and fixing centre distances at each position before ordering, and let us know of any position that does not match.
Can it be ordered together with switches and other sockets?
The answer is in affirmative. The frames and panels of EF switches and sockets are identical, thereby allowing for replacing them room by room in one series. MOQ would be provided in the quotation as per item.
